English translation below

De Gustibus 2027 , a showcase of new playwriting under 35 aimed at identifying, promoting and valorising contemporary plays written by European authors under the age of 35, launched by Elisabetta Pozzi, Director of the Acting School of the Teatro Nazionale di Genova, is expanding with a new section dedicated to performers under 35, curated by Junior Artistic Director, Princess Isatu Hassan Bangura.

The event dedicated to new, young theatre writers under 35, scheduled for May 2027, will in fact be joined by a second event in September 2027 for European performers under 35. In both cases, participants will be selected through an international open call, launching now for the playwriting section and in early 2027 for the performance section.

International open call for contemporary plays by authors under 35

The call invites young theatre writers to come forward with a view to future productions. On the initiative of Elisabetta Pozzi, the showcase DE GUSTIBUS new playwriting under 35 returns, with the aim of identifying, promoting and valorising contemporary plays written by European authors who have not turned 35 by the deadline of the call.

Authors from all EU countries have until 10 January 2027 to submit their work: unpublished plays, never before performed in public, written in (or translated into) English or Italian. Each author may submit only one play which, if staged, should run for no more than about one hour and thirty minutes and have a maximum of 7 characters. Adaptations, stand-up comedy, revisions or rewrites of existing texts are not accepted, nor will monologues be considered.

Applicants may send their application and their play (in PDF format, with the list of characters at the beginning) to the email address: degustibus@teatronazionalegenova.it by 10 January 2027, attaching the text and a letter of motivation.

The plays will be assessed by a jury appointed by the Management of the Teatro Nazionale di Genova, made up of theatre experts and young people under 35. The jury will select four finalist plays, which will be presented in Genoa at Sala Mercato during the showcase De Gustibus 2027 (6 - 24 May 2027), curated by Elisabetta Pozzi and Daniele D’Angelo, who will adapt the texts and stage them as staged readings (mise en lecture) with the students and graduates of the Acting School of the Teatro Nazionale di Genova.

The selected authors under 35 will be hosted in Genoa for the reading and will present their work together with Elisabetta Pozzi at a public talk.

During the showcase, after each staged reading, the audience and a jury of experts will vote to proclaim the winning play of De Gustibus 2027, which will be published. The play will be produced by Teatro Nazionale di Genova the following year, on the occasion of the new 2028 edition of the showcase.
